2010 Kansas Basketball Open Forum

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There has been such persistent clamoring for a write-up concerning some Kansas Basketball, that I am opening it up to you, the folks (that means you Brock and Zeets) to share some insight on what you've seen so far.
Dirkness has been so immersed in his Huskers becoming the evil villain of College Football (loving it), and the Chiefs contending for the playoffs for the first time in what seems like decades (loving it more).
But the Dirkness cupboard has been noticably empty on KU sticky notes. So help me out here, let me know what you've seen, what you think we'll see, or any other humorous interjections you might have on Kansas basketball (opposing K-State thoughts welcomed).....
His Dirkness
Part I
Since Thus Shirkness has been living up to his name and shirking on KU basketball write-ups, I’ll at least give a little insight into the AZ game; summing up the whole season should be Shirk’s job, I ain’t gonna steal his OKC Thunder.
Jay “Bias” Bilas is an awful commentator. He was obviously sunburnt, jetlagged, hungover, and in a sour mood from getting syphilis from a hooker during his Maui Invitational trip. What a biased jerkoff – he immediately latched onto to T-Rob’s apparent jawin’ to the AZ bench after he hit a splendid jumper. Did he really have to sound so perturbed by it?? The cameras didn’t even capture it or show it in a slow-mo replay before a commercial like they did SEVERAL times with Derrick Williams exploits. Now that piece o’ trash did everything in his means to jaw at our bench, fans, and the Morrisi – at one point blatantly laughing at a foul call on a Morris cuz he knew it was one of the many booolsheit foul calls they had tacked; don’t you hate when players do that whole laughing/sneering thing when a call goes their way instead of just remaining serious/pumped.. I saw one of those young, dumb Kentucky guys do it the other day. And Bilas would never even think of calling Williams out on it, No he was the underdog right, he was allowed to throw tantrums and talk shit because his team deserved to win, yeah no one wants the Jayhawks to continue their domination do they.. Fuck Jay Bilas and Derrick Williams (Scottie Pippin’s retarded lil crooked nose cousin).
Now that that small rant is out of the way, I’ll discuss our focused, mature players – I’m glad we don’t have any fools on our team, well I guess we don’t know how Selby acts yet do we? First off, the Morrisi have not only matured as aggressors, rebounders, passers, and long-distanced shooters but most importantly they possess great attitudes. Don’t get me wrong, they’re fierce and mean, but they’re not assholes about it. A couple years ago, they had a cocky, straight outta Philly demeanor that wasn’t overly appealing, you know always wantin to be in the middle of the scuffle, but now I feel that they know how good they are and how good of a team they’re on and they don’t need to flaunt their antics like Derrick Williams (I’ll admit they still sometimes complain a little too much about fouls, but there were some shitty calls vs AZ).
Part II:
T-Rob has finally figured how to use his NBA-body to its potential – dunking like a beast, rebounding like a banshee, knocking down his free-throws (that’s huuuge), and apparently hitting long jumpers and what was called a 3-pointer… as Dirkness said, he would’ve gotten T-Bagged if he would’ve missed it though.
Lil Tyshawn Tyrod Taylor seems to play smarter than last year (4 TOs vs AZ not good tho) and has become a phenomenal passer, averaging 7 assists/game is a good stat to have. I like how he still drives hard to the bucket, coulda taught lil Zavieyay (kid!) Henry some ideals.
Where the heck was Whitey Withey vs AZ??? He had a great game vs Ohio (7 pts, 8 reb, 4 blk), then comes in vs AZ has a monster block that gave us some adrenaline and then gets yanked. And this is during the fact that the Morrisi were on the bench, and Self was relying on T-Rob and Mario Little-Bigman to tear it up down low. We haaaave to utilize Withey, he is a tough competitor, has no trace of Chenowith in him, and could provide that Aldrich giant-squid blockin/rebounding effort.
Mario Little-Bigman does not deserve to be fighting down low, but he sucks it up and really battles down there. I salute him for that. His silky Carl Malone swish is not being put to use, and he probably wishes he was off scoring 20 pts/gm somewhere else, but hopefully he appreciates being on a great team.
My original plan of combing Reed and Releford into one player named Tyreleford now has been scrapped because they are both individual necessities to us. Tyrel drove hard like a manchild twice at a critical time, forcing a foul on Williams, and averaging close to 10pts/gm is a great bonus. Releford has really proven his offseason effort and nails the long ball, but he needs to slash more.
I disapprove entirely of Cornbread Morningstar’s 25+ mins/gm… I really could care less if he’s a good defender and steals the ball sometimes, he’s completely lost his shot – he sincerely cannot hit a 3. I hate the fact that his father’s contributions to the university is the only reason he plays so much, because really for playing 29 minutes vs AZ to come up with 2 pts, 2 ast, 3 rebs, and 2 fouls is essentially doing absolutely nothing except taking time away from EJ and Mario from playin the wing.
I hope Eli Jah Rule doesn’t lose all his playing time when Selby shows up, he has some quickness and ups to him that make him almost identical to Tyshawn and far better than Cornbread.
That’s all I got, I hope Thus Shirkness steps up on his KU agenda because we are a contending team in which I can’t wait for the next time we play. Go HAWKS!
Great idea Dirkness. Your timing is beautiful; Arizona was the first game I watched this season. Now maybe you're thinking you can't trust my opinion because I'm not a good fan. Maybe you're thinking I should have not only watched the games, but also attended them since I'm in Lawrence and still get student prices for this semester. I like to think I was just saving myself, so my opinion wasn't muddled by those games against nobody's that wouldn't show KU's true identity.
First of all let me say how impressed I always am with both his Dirkness' and Mr. DeBrockus' ability to come up with sweet names for these players. Mario Little Big Man and Eli Jah Rule were my favs. I wish I had your guys' skills.
So my opinion of the team as a whole is that we're awesome. These big guys are going to go down as the best big guys at Kansas since some guys by the names of Darnell, Darrell, Sasha, and Cole. Not that long ago, but still quite a group to be compared to. I love Self for so many reasons, but here's the real question- can we win against great defenses such as Memphis had in 2008 with Self's offense? It took a slew of alley-oops and easy buckets off turnovers from Mario and Russell to win that game. Our half-court has always struggled against great defenses under Self. As much as he wants good looks, it makes our teams stagnant and predictable to only run the swing from side-to-side high low we run. Sure we throw in the weave when it's clear the other team has gotten in a rhythm defensively, but it doesn't exactly take much for teams to prepare for our only two looks. Think about the early exits we've had in recent years and tell me every one of those mid majors didn't get us because we play their game. If we ran a transition offense on those teams that don't have the athleticism or depth to keep up and ran the traditional half-court stuff on the rest of the teams, we'd be playing against the Memphis' for National Championships every year (not saying we wouldn't lose to that Memphis team half the time since neither transition nor half court would work on them). Anyway I was just wanting to get that off my chest. I still love Self and I can see why he wants to make us as good a half-court team as possible and save the athleticism and depth for defense.
I did not realize T-Rob had an NBA ready body. Was he already like that last year or did he put on 30 pounds of muscle in the offseason? Either way it's great to see his hustle without all the fresman mistakes of last year.
Tyshawn is one of those players that can still get us the easy looks we don't get from alley-oops anymore since the Morrisi still prefer the layup alley-oops. He's the only person on the team with the quickness off the dribble to get us easy buckets like Sherron used to get us. If he realizes his role and doesn't take stupid shots like Sherron did, we'll be even better. I think he's been doing his job so far.
Withey is much quicker than Cole and will someday be very good (plus should eventually be much better on the offensive end than Cole). For now though, he should only play to give the big 3 a rest or if they are in foul trouble. He's just too skinny still. He was getting pushed around and almost even lost a couple of free throw rebounds.
Spot on with Little, Mr. DeBrockus. He and Releford would be scoring all our points if they were better at defense. However Mario does know how to box out quite well, so I guess that's why he's down low.
I was very surprised by Tyrel's drives as well. I hope he keeps that up. We will need his 3 point shooting since teams are going to clog the middle with our great bigs.
Releford is the best scorer on the team not named Morris. His defense is a problem as I said though.
I completely disagree on Brady. He just needs to get out of his funk. We still need his defense, hopefully his outside shooting, and most of all his high-low passing.
Can't wait to see Elijah when he runs the show in a couple of years. He could probably be on the receiving end of the alley-oop looks along with T-Rob we used to give to the 4 aforementioned bigs.
I'm with his Dirkness on whatever his name is that isn't cleared to play yet. I'll try not to be too mean to him, but I hope he doesn't just screw up our chemistry. I just don't see him being able to add that much to the team this year.
I'll add more thoughts if any more come to me.
I also wanted to add how much room the Morrisi clear out when sealing off down low. I know they are strong and play rough, but goddamn they cleared out tons of space to throw into. Even with all the great big guys Self has gone through, I think they're best for the high/low game he loves so much. Not quite as great for backscreen alley-oops. Also I loved watching the Morrisi team up to try to annoy Williams. It didn't work, but those guys could really get in a guy's head.
Hey what's the frickin deal here (not you Zeets, great analysis btw) -- my Part I ramble has gotten deleted off here twice! Dirkness even though I slammed your men Jay Bias and Dickhead Williams, that Part I was essential to this open forum...KID. I can only presume that ESPN is behind it...scouring the blogs for slanderous activity...
Niice, at least for the time being -- Zeets my Pt. 1 was pulled outta the spam folder by thus Shirk so you can read it now and scoff at my rhetoric
I was able to read it now. I agree. Bilas should suck on a rock. I was able to go to the game today. Noticed Self put Releford in on the last play of the first half when we were on defense. I still think he's a terrific scorer, so I don't know why Self wouldn't have him in there if he wants him in on defense. I hope it was a specific match-up thing.
Get a second opinion. When they're combined, depression and anxiety can be hard to diagnose. It's easy for a doctor to miss some of your symptoms -- and as a result, you could wind up with the wrong treatment. If you have any doubts about your care, it's smart to check in with another expert., Go Here: http://judoomlu.300mb.us#47339 - What Is the History of Depression?, Get the facts: http://dobrayhu.doang.net#98372 - While treatment of depression in patients with medical illness is effective in improving depression, it is unclear whether such treatment improves medical outcomes [ 137 ]. There have been conflicting results from clinical trials of treating depression in diabetes and after stroke [ 109,110,147-151 ], and treating depression after acute coronary syndromes has not been shown to improve mortality [ 152,153 ]. Improvement in medical outcomes may depend upon the specific intervention that is used. A single-blind, randomized trial, involving 214 patients with depression and poorly controlled diabetes, coronary heart disease, or both, compared treatment as usual with collaborative care, in which a medically supervised nurse provided guideline-based care for managing depression and the medical illness [ 154 ]. Those who received collaborative care had significantly greater improvement at 12 months of glycated hemoglobin levels, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, and systolic blood-pressure levels, as well as depression symptoms.
